BIO

Tim Regan and his five brothers inherited their marine obsessions from their parents. All six boys grew up manning jib sails on JY's, barrel riding the Bridgehampton beach breaks, boating the Peconics, and revering the sanctity of the saltwater. Both their parents and Poseidon made them all 6 educators: they thrived in the salt and enthusiastically taught their expertise in swimming, sailing, wave riding, lifeguarding, fishing, beach bumming and righteous living.

Tim's path became strewn with salt after college. He spent his childhood addicted to sports, and ended up playing D-1 tennis at Holy Cross. After graduating in 2013 with a BA in Political Science, he moved to Montauk, following a gut feeling that he needed to be near the surf; the ocean was the only thing calling to him. His fellow ocean lifeguards introduced him to surfcasting that summer, and Tim got hooked immediately. All that time/energy once devoted to athletics would be poured into learning, enjoying and vying to protect New York's waterbodies.

A lifeguarding/maintenance job at a beach club became a full time employee-housing opportunity shortly after graduation. For the next 12 years, every single day would be purposefully spent on the water. The ocean guarding helped Tim hone his ability to read water and fish movements, and introduced him to working a line in heavy surf. Researching the wrack line and fishing at all hours became a crash course on the littoral zone, salt ponds and local watersheds. His intense focus and passion resulted in a rapid progression and understanding of aquatic ecosystems.

Tim's outdoor experiences were too cool to keep to himself. He began purchasing cameras to film his outings and edited the clips into long-form videos for Youtube. His short-form posts/stories on Instagram fostered a significant following, and his eloquent descriptions intrigued the media. Tim worked as the Field Editor of On The Water Magazine for some years, publishing feature photos, articles, and a season-long weekly fishing forecast.

In 2019, Tim pioneered the documentation of the Atlantic Menhaden population's resurgence, alongside fellow Long Islanders Chris Paparo and Mike Busch. Tim's "Shiver of Sharks" video on social media went ultra-viral in 2021, accumulating hundreds of millions of views globally. This exposure generated work with Netflix ("Our Oceans") & Nat Geo ("Shark Attack 360"), and spurred droves of drone pilots to participate in this brand new ecoscape.

Tim moved off the beach in 2025, having lived over a decade in the dunes. He settled in Sag Harbor, NY with his wife Ali and their two dogs. Ali owns Hamptons Bridal in Southampton. Tim found work as a property manager alongside his good friend Steve Bechard, who also builds the fishing rods Tim uses (Rise Fishing Company). Tim gives a number of seminars annually, educating people about surf fishing, fly tying, marine life, cinematography and more.
